The Vicar - The Revd. Nick Williams

The first thing that you need to know about weddings at St Margaret's, St John's or St Mary's  is that the Vicar, loves conducting them!

Inside St Margaret's is really picturesque and conveys a sense of true village charm and prayerful quietness, it comfortably holds around 90 people and if requested services can be conducted wholly by candlelight. To give you an idea there are some pictures below but for a true impression contact the Vicar and come and have a look. ... and what does it cost to be married here, around £650 depending on what you want your Church wedding to look like.

Then, you need to know that wedding and marriage blessing services can be arranged at St Margarets at any time throughout the year and that you can marry here if you can show:

That one of you has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months, click here to see if you live or lived in the Parish, or

  • was baptised in the parish, or

  • was prepared for confirmation in the parish, or

  • has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or

That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

  • has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or

  • has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or

That one of your parents or grandparents:

  • was married in the parish

And did you know that if you move house, you’re immediately connected to the church there? That means you can marry in the church of your new parish.

In all cases involving church services - i.e. going to normal church services, baptism, confirmation or marriage - this applies only to Church of England services. Even if you cannot demonstrate any of the above connections, we want to help you explore whether it may still be possible for you to marry in your special church.

Talk to the Vicar there well in advance to discuss the options open to you, he can be contacted
 on 01322 227 153 or

You can find more information on weddings in the Church of England as well copies of the wedding service and ideas for your wedding on this website: Your Church wedding

Blessing of a marriage

The church is also available for a religious service following a civil marriage ceremony in cases where it has not been possible to marry in Church. These can be arranged without any of the legal preliminaries, providing that the civil marriage has previously taken place. Regrettably, and contrary to our own wishes the law does not allow our clergy to bless or conduct civil Partnerships or same sex marriages.

Renewal of Marriage Vows and Wedding Anniversay Services

Again we would love to help you renew your comitment to each other and to celebrate a special anniversay. These services can be arranged without any legal preliminaries, just contact the Vicar to talk though what you would like to do.

Couples who wish for a service of blessing, to renew their vows or to arrange an anniversay service are invited to contact the Vicar on 01322 227 153 or to discuss their wishes and the arrangements that need to be made.

Banns of marriage

When couples arrange to marry at St Margret's the Banns are automatically read but they will also have to be read in any other parish where the couple live. Residents of Darenth who are marrying elsewhere will have to ensure that Banns are read at St Margret's at least a month before the wedding, by arrangement with the Vicar, for which a fee is payable. Please note it will not be possible to be married without a certificate from all appropriate Churches saying that your Banns have been read and there has been no objection
